Musical Themed Hair Keepsake Pendants

I was contacted recently with a request for me to make a hair keepsake pendant with a musical theme. I was asked to make a resin heart shaped pendant containing a small lock of hair. In addition to the hair, I was asked for the pendant to contain a small message and a musical reference such as a musical note or cleft.

So, this is what I made; a resin heart shaped pendant containing the lock of hair a small message and a musical clef placed within the top corner of the heart.

Inspired by making a musical themed pendant (I also had a small sample of unused hair that I could use), I decided to make another pendant as an additional gift to my customer. This additional pendant is sterling silver in the form of a musical note and contains a small lock of hair, encased with resin within the sterling silver setting.

If anyone could let me know if this musical note symbol has a better technical term, please let me know?

In 13 years of making jewellery, these are the first musical themed hair keepsake pendants that I have made, and I am incredibly pleased how they both turned out.

Handmade Custom Jewellery Presentation

I am still very busy at Shpangle Jewellery and as well as my usual UK orders I have been having quite a few from around the world. I have just completed a large custom jewellery order from Canada of 12 keepsake pendants and today have completed an order for Taiwan! Yes Taiwan is a first for me at Shpangle Jewellery, well in fact it was for a Canadian lady living in Taiwan but still counts to me as a Taiwanese custom jewellery order! There seems to be a common trend with my custom jewellery orders and Canada, in fact outside of the UK most of my sales come from Canada.

I have also been doing quite a bit to my website; have reorganised my customer Testimonials page and have added quite a bit of information to my hair keepsake page. In doing so I have realised that I do not actually display any where the presentation of my custom jewellery when I send it to the customer.

So I thought I would show you a couple of examples of my custom jewellery. This photo shows a typical hair keepsake pendant mounted within its jewellery box. The customer didn’t want to wear this pendant but they were to be given out as gifts to family and friends. The pendant was mounted within the jewellery box on a short piece of ribbon, to be kept as a keepsake rather than worn as an item of jewellery.

This photo shows an example of the engraving that I do for the back of my sterling silver keepsake pendants. I can accommodate most engraving requirements including small messages, names, dates, and in this case a heart symbol. I think the most words that have been engraved onto one of my keepsake pendants was seven or eight words which isn’t bad for the size of the pendant. The engraving on the keepsake is a nice touch as it makes the jewellery even more personal to its owner.

You may remember a recent blog post of mine where I mentioned my name on rice jewellery that starred in a movie. Well another exciting thing happened to me this week, I was contacted by a producer at BBC Radio 4 who is putting together a documentary about hair jewellery and wanted me to help! I will update you with the details if/when it goes ahead at a later date!

Busy Making Custom Jewellery Orders

I was extremely busy yesterday morning with five custom jewellery orders being carried out simultaneously. It may look like chaos in the photograph but believe me it was organised chaos.

The first order is for some horse hair to be embedded in a pendant heart. The customer also wanted the pendant to be translucent green in colour and I have made a few examples but my preference is one with a green backing so I will see what she thinks. I will also be giving her a teardrop version because I had some left over horse hair which she didn’t want to be returned.

The second jewellery order is for two pendants containing pet fur. I am not sure what type of pet but the fur is gorgeous; both black and white and silky to the touch and it looks fantastic in the pendants. I wasn’t sure how the white fur would look in clear resin but it lovely set against the black fur.

The third order is for a lock of hair to be set within a sterling silver keyring. The keyring is for a lady who has just got engaged and wants to present it to her fiancé. I have also made a resin phone charm containing her hair and engraved the back of the silver keyring with her chosen message.

The fourth order is a photograph pendant. But it is more than just a photograph pendant as it contains a photograph at the front and confetti and glitter at the back followed by a lock of hair. This is an extremely happy pendant and is a pleasure to make.

And the fifth and final order is a real fuchsia flower pendant for Angela my wife. Well, I could tell that she was a little annoyed that I sold the last fuchsia pendant I made so thought I would make another just for her!
