Bespoke Retirement Paperweights

Over three years ago I wrote a blog post about a custom retirement paperweight gift that I had made for a retiree from a company. Well recently I have been asked to make several similar paperweights for various companies and charities, the bespoke paperweights are to be given as retirement gifts to the departing employees.

The following are just a few examples of the bespoke retirement paperweights that I have recently been asked to make and all contain objects that were sent to me by the business or charity for encasing inside the resin paperweight.

For the first bespoke retirement paperweight I was asked to make, my customer sent me an unusual object to be encased inside the paperweight. To be honest, I was not sure what the object was after receiving it and I had to ask my customer to explain.

Custom made retirement paperweight gift

I was asked some time ago if I could make a custom made paperweight for a UK company. The company specialised in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of industrial products and they wanted to send me some machined components for incorporating into the paperweight. The paperweight was to be given as a retirement gift to one of their long standing employees.

This is the finished paperweight containing the bearings and other machined components that they provided. I also included the company logo and the name and date of the gentleman who was retiring from the company.

I have often thought how special this must have been to the recipient of the paperweight; to receive something custom made and unique to them, containing items that they may have worked with for many years.

Similar paperweights could also be provided by companies as client gifts or corporate paperweights, showcasing the products that they manufacture or supply.

Custom Jewellery - Microchip Cufflinks

I am often asked to preserve some very interesting items for people within my custom made jewellery and last week was one of those occasions. I was contacted by a UK company who specialise in the design and manufacture of wireless microcontrollers. These microcontrollers are used in many applications such as controlling smart lighting for homes, offices and even street lighting.

The lady who contacted me was organising a retirement gift for an employee and asked if she could send me some of their microchips (the electronic component type, not the McCaine type) for me to place within silver cufflinks. The microchips are part of the microcontrollers that the company manufacture, are 4mm square and paper thin. I encased them in resin onto a pair of sterling silver cufflinks and this was the result.

It was the man’s retirement day today and I hope he liked his gift; I think the microchip cufflinks are certainly a very thoughtful gift by the company and I am sure they will bring back very fond memories for him.
